Packrafting in the “Bavarian Canada”

How to enjoy a long sunny weekend? Going on a river, of course! With  my friend Ben, we went packrafting on the “Schwartzer Regen” last weekend.

After an easy train connection from Munich, we jumped in the boats in the “Großer Regen” to experience a short run of white water upstream from the city of Zwiesel. Afterwards, we enjoyed breathtaking landscapes in quieter waters as the river cuts through the Bavarian Forest.

We met again wilder waters in the “Bärenloch”, between the cities of Regen and Viertach. Passing these rapids was a little more challenging than expected because the low water level made us bump on many rocks and the sun made it difficult to see those rocks.

During this trip we were blessed by a wonderful weather and by the river folk: beavers, trouts, mayflies, grass snakes, kingfishers, dippers and many other birds came to please our eyes.

We left the river at Teisnach, with the promise to come back in autumn and finish the stretch… This was a beautiful tour, thank you buddy! 😉
